How to Recruit Mathilda in Fire Emblem Echoes
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is filled with different characters that’ll join your army. Among the various unit types, Cavaliers and Paladins are especially useful due to their high movement range and defense. Your first Paladin in Alm’s army will be Clive the leader of The Deliverance. However, his beloved Mathilda has been captured and imprisoned by the rebel Desaix.
To save Mathilda, you’ll need to get to Desaix’s Fortress itself, and start the battle there. Unfortunately, Mathilda is being kept captive right behind the boss of the map, Desaix, and he orders archers to attack her as soon as the battle commences. Because of this, you’ll need to rush up and defeat your enemies as quickly as possible, in order to save Mathilda. Luckily, she can hold her own, so just advance at a cautious pace, making sure to keep your own units safe at the same time. As long as Mathilda is alive by the end of the battle, you’re good. Once the battle is over, head inside to Desaix’s Fortress Interior, and down to the Dungeon. Examine the cell to open it, which will prompt a conversation with Mathilda and the option to recruit her.
