The new No Man’s Sky update, Beyond, adds a whole host of new features to the game. On top of being able to milk and ride creatures, PC and PS4 players can now play it in VR. If you’re planning on putting your headset on and jumping in, here’s everything you need to know about how to play No Man’s Sky in VR and what the compatible controllers are.
The entire game is playable in VR, with you being able to wander around planets on foot or fly around space in the remodelled cockpits. Looking out into space from your ship in VR is a sight to behold and really gives No Man’s Sky an impressive new perspective.
How to Play No Man’s Sky in VR
As far as we can tell, there isn’t actually a way to play in VR once you’ve already started the game up. If you begin playing normally, there doesn’t seem to be any option in the menu to switch to VR, and quitting to the main menu and reloading your save doesn’t help either.
What you need to do to play No Man’s Sky in VR is turn on your VR headset and get set up before starting the game. Then, when you load the game up, you’ll be playing in VR automatically, with all the menus and loading screens being in VR too. There’s no option to select, just turn on your headset before starting the game.
Therefore, if you’re playing already and want to swap to VR, be sure to save whenever you can, close the game, and restart it with your headset connected.
Compatible Controllers for No Man’s Sky VR
Thankfully, there are a couple of ways you can play Hello Games’ new update in VR. Of course, you can play as you’ll be used to, with a controller or keyboard, with movement being aimed with the light bar on the DualShock 4, but motion controllers are the best option.
If you’re playing No Man’s Sky in VR on PSVR, using Move Controllers feels much more natural. You still aim where you want to move on foot using the controller’s light and the trigger on the back, but you can access the menus via a light on your character’s left hand, and you fly your ship using an actual joystick and thruster.
It can take a little getting used to, especially if you’ve played a lot of No Man’s Sky in standard mode already, but it adds a new dimension to exploration.
That’s everything you need to know about how to play No Man’s Sky in VR and what the compatible controllers are. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite. We have also listed some other helpful Beyond guides down below.
