With the release of the new Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC, players are hopping into the 2011 looter shooter Borderlands 2 all over again. As part of the DLC, Borderlands 2 has received a new weapon rarity level called effervescent (or Rainbow Rarity). Not only do these guns look awesome, they’re also pretty damn powerful too, especially one called Toothpick.
If you’ve yet to get it on your adventure through the expansion so far, though, you might be wondering what you’re doing wrong and how to get it, well, let’s run you through exactly that.
What Toothpick’s Stats Are in Borderlands 2
The Toothpick is an incredibly formidable weapon in Borderlands 2, with its 100 accuracy and insanely high damage stat. Additionally, it’s fairly low reload speed means you won’t be left vulnerable for too long.

What’s most impressive, however, is Toothpick’s firing mode, which sees it shoot two horizontal lines of five bullets at a time. That’s an absolute ton of damage you’re dealing out at any given time. Throw in the fact that its burn damage/ sec stat is nice and high, and you’ve got a gun that’s pretty OP in Borderlands 2.
Of course, it’s worth noting that the exact stats for your drop of this weapon may differ slightly, but this gives you an idea of what kind of stats and effects this weapon can have when you do get a drop.
Getting Toothpick Effervescent in Borderlands 2 Commander Lilith DLC
It seems as though this rainbow rarity weapon has the best chance of dropping from the Sand Worms that you’ll come across as you progress through the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC. Specifically, a lot of players have had success getting this to drop from the Sand Worm Queens.
To farm these Sand Worms, you’ll want to head to Vaughn at the Backburner. He’ll have a quest for you called “The Hunt is Vaughn” once you’ve advanced far enough through the DLC’s main quest and other side missions.
After obtaining the quest, you’ll then need to follow the quest marker which will take you to The Burrows. Meet up with the Bandit Recruits here and then head in to take on the Sand Worms and Sand Worm Queens. What’s important to note here is both the standard and the queen variant of these nasty-looking worms have a chance to drop the Toothpick, but the Queens’ rate is far higher.
Unfortunately, if you complete the mission and save your game, the Sand Worm Queens won’t respawn, so you’ll be stuck farming the smaller worms and this could take longer for you to get the Toothpick to drop.
Instead, simply return to your home screen on PS4 or dashboard on Xbox One and close the game without saving, then load back up to start the mission over if the weapon doesn’t drop. For those of you playing through the Commander Lilith on PC, to farm this mission for the Toothpick effervescent, you’ll want to use the ‘read only’ farm method, which you can find out more about here.
That’s everything you need to know about getting the Toothpick in Borderlands 2. We’ve got plenty more Borderlands 2 Commander Lilith DLC guides, explaining the rainbow rarity, how to start the DLC, how to get yourself a level 30 character, how to farm effervescent weapons from Uranus, and how to beat Haderax the Invincible.
