The Best Companions in The Outer Worlds, All 6 Ranked

Let’s start this out with a caveat, even though Nyoka is in last on our list of the best companions in The Outer World, she’s not bad in any way, it’s just that the other companions in The Outer Worlds are better, based on a combination of use in battle as well as personality.

6. Nyoka

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

Let’s start this out with a caveat, even though Nyoka is in last on our list of the best companions in The Outer World, she’s not bad in any way, it’s just that the other companions in The Outer Worlds are better, based on a combination of use in battle as well as personality.

Nyoka’s schtick is something that you’ve seen from party members before, that battle-hardened veteran who’s constantly drunk. There’s more context to all of that, of course, looping in Nyoka’s past with her comrades.

In battle, Nyoka is best with heavy gattling guns, and her companion ability plays to that as well. She’s good at causing damage but doesn’t have much in the way of staggering enemies or causing status effects.

Nyoka’s is good, but everyone else is just more memorable.

5. SAM

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

SAM is a hilarious idea for a companion in The Outer Worlds; a corporate cleaning robot turned into a deadly killing machine.

You can get SAM pretty much as soon as you board the Unreliable, and the robot is relentlessly cheerful. He’ll diligently go about his duties cleaning the ship, and then cleaning the battlefield.

SAM doesn’t have the same level of character development as others, due to him being fairly one-dimensional, but he’s an absolute blast to have around.

The robot will constantly make enthusiastic remarks, or relate everything to cleaning. He’s also the only companion in The Outer Worlds that has an AoE companion ability, letting him jump and blast downward on a group of enemies.

4. Ellie

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

Ellie is the companion we saw the most of leading up to release, and she’s the veritable poster-girl of the game, being featured in the reveal trailer and box art. It’s little wonder then, that she manages to be incredibly memorable.

Ellie’s character is basically the spirit of the game, a happy-go-lucky spacer that’s willing to do whatever it takes, as long as it pays. Underneath that rough exterior, however, Ellie does have a heart of gold.

As you explore the Halcyon Colony Ellie opens up more and more, and her companion quest packs a bit more emotion than others.

Elie is also a hugely useful companion to have in battle, as she’s the most skilled member of your crew with ranged weapons.

3. Felix

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

Felix is nothing if not….enthusiastic. Basically your hype-man throughout the game, Felix is simply pleased by getting to roam around the galaxy in a spaceship.

He’s a bit dense, unfortunately, but Felix has a lot of heart, and he’s constantly encouraging you and urging you to do the right thing.

Unlike everyone else that uses weapons, Felix’s companion ability has him launch a hilarious drop-kick at the enemy. While it’s ridiculous it’s also incredibly useful, knocking down and staggering enemies at key moments.

Felix isn’t the quickest on the uptake, but he’s one of the most charming characters in the entire game.

2. Vicar Max

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

Vicar Max is the perfect character for a wacky game like The Outer Worlds. A man of the cloth with a dark past, who constantly references the time he spent in prison.

Despite being a Vicar, Max is never afraid to get his hands dirty, and it’s pretty hilarious to see him square up with his companion ability and blast someone with his shotgun.

Max has one of the more interesting character arcs in The Outer Worlds, and the final step of his companion quest is absolutely unforgettable in the best way possible.

1.Parvati

Best Companions in The Outer Worlds

Parvati may be the first companion you get, but she’s easily the most charming character in the entire game.

This innocent mechanic isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and is always willing to lend a hand should you ask, and you often do. She’s a superbly well-written character with both an interesting backstory and personality.

Her companion quest is absolutely adorable, tasking you with helping her aks out, then set up the perfect date, with her crush. It also helps that her companion ability is incredibly useful at knocking down and stunning enemies, especially mechanicals.

Parvati appeals ties directly into the Outer World’s sense of humor and fun, which are by far its best traits.
