How to Special Shot in Mario Tennis Aces

Mario Tennis Aces brings the series to Nintendo Switch for the first time, with a host of additions and changes. Matches are a bit more tactical now, with a wealth of different abilities and special shots that you can pull off, on top of characters having specific classes. Before you jump online or start taking on friends, you’ll want to know the ins and outs of the game’s systems. In particular, the Special Shot can help you get the leg up on your opponent, especially if you’ve been stuck in a lengthy rally.

The Special Shot basically functions as a souped-up version of the Zone Shot in Mario Tennis Aces, letting you slow down time and place your shot wherever you want on the opponent’s court. To use it you’ll first need to have a full energy gauge, which is mostly filled by performing trick shots or having long rallies. Once full, simply press the L button while returning and time will slow down, allowing you to use the left stick, or motion controls if they’re on, to aim the shot. That’s all you need to know, just make sure to keep the Special Shot in mind if you’re finding yourself neck and neck during match.
