Using the Overdrive Protocol Item in Xenoblade Chronicles 2

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you can discover new Blades by having Drivers interact with core crystals. However, there is a twist to this system. Once a Driver interacts with a core crystal and opens it up, that Blade will bound to that Driver permanently, which means that you can’t simply equip different Blades for different Drivers. There is, however, a way to get around this limitation.

By using an item called the Overdrive Protocol, you can transfer Blades between your Drivers. There is a catch, though: the Overdrive Protocol is a very rare item and can be difficult to find when you’re just out casually exploring Alrest. From our experience, they can be found inside chests, but they’re not just materials you can pick up from Collection Points or acquire by killing regular enemies.

Because of that, it’s strongly recommended that you give careful thought to which Driver interacts with your more powerful core crystals before actually committing to the act. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon an Overdrive Protocol, save it for instances where you really need to transfer a powerful Blade from one Driver to another.
