How to Play & Beat Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a classic PC game that came loaded in everyone’s first computer. A total icon in the gaming scene, and a great way to get your thinkin’ on while killin’ a bit of time in your day. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also pretty difficult if you have no idea what you’re doing. Here’s how to play and ultimately beat a game of Minesweeper.
First, you could click anywhere on the minefield. This first click of yours comes down to total luck, really, so if you happen to hit a bomb, you just know you’re unlucky and can start again. But, honestly, a tip I would give is to start off by clicking one of the corners on the field. This will make it easy because Minesweeper is all about deducing where mines are and are not.
When you click a box on the field, a number (or numbers) will show. This number tells you how many bombs are around that space. If there’s no bombs around it, it will just appear grayed out. But if there are any, you’ll see a number. Use this number and deduce where the bomb is. Did you hit the corner box and suddenly have a number 1 appear? This tells you that one of the spaces around it has a mine, and you’re going to have to take a leap of faith as to where it’s not.
Not every move will be a guessing game, though. If you have a space that says it has 2 mines around it, and a nearby space that connects says it has 1, then you’ll know that the one near that second space definitely has a bomb.
When you have a good idea that you’ve found where a mine is, you can right-click on that space and thus mark it for extra points at the end. Be careful about being wrong, though! This can really throw you off your game. Rid the board of all the mines and you’ll have won! Here’s a video that showcases a visual tutorial, if you need that.
That’s all there is to playing Minesweeper! If you have any more questions, let us know in the comments below!
