The Ridden in Back 4 Blood are vicious ol’ things. They’ll come at you and try and tear you limb from limb with every rotten tooth, mangled claw, and mutated appendage they’ve got left. However, there is a way to make them even tougher (or easier) and increasing the rate of rewards you get by changing the Back 4 Blood difficulty settings.

This cannot be done whenever you want, however. In this guide, we’ll explain what you need to know about changing difficulty, and how it’ll affect your zombie-slaying experience.

Changing Difficulty in Back 4 Blood

You can only change difficulty in Back 4 Blood when creating a run. Once you’ve begun a run, either in solo or online, you are unable to change the difficulty setting without starting over.

That being said, it is possible to start a run from the beginning of any of the game’s four acts once you’ve played through them once already.

This is done by opening the ‘Play’ menu, selecting ‘Campaign,’ and then choosing ‘Create Run.’

You’ll then be able to choose from Back 4 Blood’s difficulty settings. These are Recruit, Veteran and Nightmare.

Select your difficulty setting and then choose the ‘Create Run’ option at the top of the screen.
