Mareanie – Pokemon Sun and Moon
Mareanie might just be the absolute rarest Pokemon in all of Sun and Moon. In order to catch one, you will have to hunt for a different rare Pokemon in order to find it. Mareanie only appears during S.O.S. battles with Corsola, meaning you’re going to have to cross your fingers that you don’t win a battle too soon, and that when Corsola calls for help it’s a Mareanie that appears. Why is it tied to Corsola? It’s Moon Pokedex entry sheds some light on this:
“It’s found crawling on beaches and seafloors. The coral that grows on Corsola’s head is as good as a five-star banquet to this Pokémon.”
You’ll want to use an Adrenaline Orb. It’s an item that is held by one of your own Pokemon in order to increase the chances of wild monsters you fight calling for help. Equip it then go fishing on Route 9. You may want to look for bubbling fishing spots, as these have a better chance of spawning a Corsola, which can, in turn, decrease the time it takes you to eventually see a Mareanie.
Just make sure not to make the Corsola faint as you wait for it to summon help. False Swipe is a particularly useful move to use here as it will leave an enemy Pokemon with 1HP rather than wiping out its health completely. If Corsola then happens to summon the beast you’re looking for, simply defeat the Corsola and focus on catching your new Pokedex addition.
