Best Guns to Use in Modern Warfare Remastered

Modern Warfare Remastered is free this month with PlayStation Plus, allowing you to jump back into some of Call of Duty’s best ever maps. But which guns should you use? Well, here’s everything you need to know about what the best guns are in Modern Warfare Remastered.

The weapon selection in Modern Warfare Remastered is different from how it was in the game’s original version, since more guns have been added, which are unlocked by completing challenges and opening crates.

If you spent much time with the game about a decade ago, you’ll likely have your favorite loadouts memorized, but we’ll run you down the best guns in each category.

Assault Rifles – Modern Warfare Remastered

M16A4 – One of the first weapons you’ll get your hands on in the game, which you’ll get used to before you hit level 4 and can create a class, the M16 as it’s known as one of the best guns in the game, especially if you put a red dot sight on it.

It’s a three round burst rifle and is incredibly easy to use due to its lack of recoil and accuracy. One burst is often enough to take out one enemy, except when faced by an opponent using Juggernaut.

M4 Carbine – One of the most used guns in Modern Warfare Remastered, it’s the go-to for many players. What makes it one of the best guns is its decent damage output and accuracy.

Unlike the AK-47, you can run around without having to worry about recoil disrupting you when faced with lots of enemies. It’s also equally great with a silencer or red dot sight, making it useful in short range fights too. The G36C is a good alternative.

Sniper Rifle – Best Guns

M40A3 – The first sniper that you unlock is many people’s favorite. Its high mobility doesn’t sacrifice damage output and it’s very accurate.

Also, one of the fan favorites from back in the day was to put an ACOG scope on it, to take advantage of the mobility. If you’re accurate with your own shooting, using it that way can make it one of the best guns in Modern Warfare Remastered, and it’s great for no-scoping fun.

Barrett .50CAL

The Barrett may not be as accurate as some of its sniper rifle counterparts, but it’s combination of damage, mobility, and good fire rate make it a powerhouse. You don’t unlock it very early, however.

Also, the noise it makes when you shoot is incredible.

Submachine Guns – Modern Warfare Remastered

MP5 – Another early favorite for many, the MP5 is perfect for close quarters fights due to its incredible mobility and fire rate stats. It’s range is poor, but it’s a great all rounder generally.

For maps like Vacant, Wet Work, and Shipment, with a Red Dot Sight or Silencer equipped, it’s a great option and easily one of the best guns in the game.

P90 – Much like the MP5, the P90 is far from the most powerful weapon in Modern Warfare Remastered, nor is it good at range. However, it is unrivaled when it comes to mobility and fire rate.

Also, with decent accuracy, it is easy to use when hip firing, making it perfect at short range. Just like the .50CAL, it’s easy to hear when one’s near you.

Shotguns – Best Guns

M1014 – Shotguns tend to be rare breed in Modern Warfare Remastered and don’t tend to be considered among the best guns. For the most part, they’re only really viable options on the likes of Shipment, or the tight sections of Vacant and Wet Work.

When it comes to the two standard shotguns in the game, it depends what you prefer. The W1700 is more powerful, but its rate of fire is lower.

The M1014 is preferable, particularly for maps like Shipment, because of that rate of fire increase. You can sprint around the map, blasting opponents away in seconds.

LMGs – Modern Warfare Remastered

M60E4 – LMGs are another largely ignored weapon type. However, the M60E4 can be considered among the best guns in the game.

Not in its base build, though. An M60 really needs a Red Dot Sight to be viable. However, once you’ve got one, it’s a powerful beast that’s surprisingly useful at mid-range.

One or two well placed bullets are enough to take out an enemy, so you don’t have to worry about the recoil a lot of the time. Then, if you’re on smaller maps or in objective-based modes, you can easily take out groups of enemies due to the large clip size. The RPD is a good alternative for similar reasons.
