Blocking Attacks in Tekken 7

Tekken 7 is a relentless fighter, and if you’re going to be facing people online or at home, you will need to know how to block. Unless you want to face an onslaught of combos, of course. Then you’re fine. Just stare at your controller.

If you want to block and win some matches, though, go ahead and hold back when you’re about to get hit in order to do so. Back, by the way, could mean left or right on your d-pad depending on where you’re standing, so always keep in mind your positioning during the match. Alternatively, you can simply press nothing and be fine to your enemy’s punches. This leaves you vulnerable to grabs or lower hits, though!

Also, keep in mind that you need to crouch (hold down) to block low attacks. Don’t try moving forward or back during this time, simply holding down will lead you to block a low attack. This is different than if you’re trying to block a high attack, and vice versa. If you’re crouched and blocking, it won’t matter if you’re about to get a kick to the top of your head. You need to anticipate where attacks are coming from and act accordingly.
