How to Talk to NPCs & Start a Fight With Them in Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 presents a more ambitious version of the Old West than ever seen before, letting player trek across multiple states and areas. Technically a prequel to the original game, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows the exploits of Arthur Morgan, a member of the notorious Dutch Van Der Linde Gang. There are plenty of new gameplay options and mechanics, and quite a few things are even changed from the first game. This includes the way you talk to NPCs, which now gives you a more dynamic system. Here’s how to talk to NPCs and start a fight with them in Red Dead Redemption 2.
How to Talk to NPCs
First things first, before you try and talk to NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2 you have to have your gun holstered. People won’t take kindly to having a gun pointed at them. Hold down L2 to focus on an NPC, and if there’s one close by but not close enough to interact, you’ll have the option to call out to them to stop. Once you focus in, you can use the face buttons to talk to NPCs and do various things. Use the square button (X on Xbox) to be nice and interact with them. Triangle (Y) will do the opposite of being nice, and let you rob them. Finally, hitting the circle button (B) will let you antagonize them, or intervene in a fight if you happen to stroll upon one in Red Dead Redemption 2.
How to Start a Fight
In order to start a fight with a random NPC all you need to do is simply keep on antagonizing them. Just keep pestering the hapless soul by pressing circle (B) and eventually they’ll get so fed up that they’ll start fighting/shooting at you. Alternatively, the NPC might also want to duel you. Of course, you can just start hitting an NPC any time you want, but this will be viewed as a dishonorable crime and can help give you a wanted level. Because of this, it’s generally a better idea to antagonize an NPC into attacking you first. However, during our experience, we found that even though we didn’t start the fight, some towns will have lawmen that will still put a bounty on you, so be careful.
That’s everything you need to know about how to talk to NPCs and start a fight with them, if you want to, in Red Dead Redemption 2.
