The Animal Crossing New Horizons version 2.0 update is now live, and one of the most anticipated additions to the game is the arrival of Brewster and his cafe, the Roost. Before you run off to the museum to enjoy a cup of coffee, you should know that he won’t be there right away. There are a few steps before Brewster will open up his shop on your island. Here’s how to unlock Brewster and the Roost in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
How To Unlock Brewster and the Roost
The very first thing you need to do in your quest to unlock Brewster and the Roost (besides updating your game to version 2.0, of course) is to go talk to Blathers in the museum. He should have three dots over his head to symbolize new dialogue.
Note: If you haven’t donated one of each exhibit to the museum — Fish, Bugs, Art, Fossils & Sea Creatures — you won’t have this dialog option with Blathers. Make sure you’ve got these donated, as you’ll need to wait a day after donating them before you can discuss Brewster with Blathers.
Blathers will explain how he wants to make an addition to the museum to attract more guests. His brilliant idea is to open up a cafe with the help of an old friend named Brewster. However, he admits that he doesn’t know where Brewster is anymore, but he gives you his photograph and a clue: try checking around some nearby deserted islands.
Your next step is to head over to the pier on your island where Kapp’n is waiting with his boat. Everyone’s pier location is different, but this is a different, smaller dock than the one where the airport is located. Talk to Kapp’n, give him 1,000 Nook Miles, and he’ll take you to a mysterious island.
It’s very important that you already talked to Blathers before visiting an island with Kapp’n. If you did, then Brewster will appear walking around somewhere on this island.
Talk to him and let him know you recognize him. He’ll be pleased that Blathers was asking about him, and he’ll agree to come to your island to set up his cafe.
Head back to your home island and talk to Blathers again. He’ll be delighted to hear the news that Brewster is coming soon. In fact, he decides he needs to start renovating right away.
Now you get to play the waiting game. The museum will be closed for renovations the next day after you invite Brewster. Therefore, the Roost will officially open the following day. In total, it should take two days.
After the museum has finished renovations, it will be open again, and you can head to the top left of the building to visit the Roost and get a hot cup of coffee from Brewster. That’s everything you need to know about how to unlock Brewster and the Roost in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
