Most creatures players come across in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are pretty straight forward. You locate them, figure out their weakness, then proceed to unleash a maelstrom of silver death upon them. Simple, right? The Hym is quite different. For starters, when you first meet this vile specter, Geralt doesn’t even realize that a Hym is what he’s dealing with. Here’s how to beat the Hym in The Witcher 3.

How to Beat the Hym in The Witcher 3.

When pursuing the Possession quest in the Skellige Isles (recommended Level 17), you will find yourself helping Cerys as she makes her bid for the crown. Originally, she believes that Udalryk, the jarl she is trying to assist is being haunted by his deceased brother, Aki, due to a rather tragic death at sea.

After going through the motions, the haunting doesn’t seem to stop, and this puzzles Geralt. Throughout The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt all of his methods have worked perfectly, so to have things suddenly not work in his favor is pretty odd.

It is at this time that our white-haired protagonist finally starts to figure everything out. Udalryk is self-mutilating, paranoid, frightened, and willing to sacrifice everything in order to assuage his guilt. There is only one thing that can cause all of this, and that is a Hym. Now that you know what it is, dealing with it is going to take a bit of trust.

Once Geralt confirms that he is in fact dealing with a Hym, he pulls Cerys aside and presents two options for ridding Udalryk of this evil. One is the witcher way which involves staying at the old house for a full day, then battling the specter.

While it seems straight forward, there is a strong chance that Udalryk will not survive the process. The second option involves tricking the Hym into leaving the jarl’s body by convincing it that either you or Cerys have committed a much greater offense than that of the jarl.

Though it may go against your nature, you’ll want to choose the trickster option. In order to follow through with this plan you are going to have to completely trust Cerys. This may prove a bit difficult since she is going to do some crazy things, but trust me, it’s all for the best.

Head to the house with Cerys and let her set up her plan (which is a secret by the way). She will come rushing in a few hours later and thrust a baby into your arms, commanding you to toss it into the oven (yeah, we told you it would be crazy).

You will have to make one of those quick decisions, so immediately throw the baby into the oven, blanket and all, then lock it as you go forth and do battle with Udalryk’s soldiers.

Once the dust has settled, and copious amounts of blood have been spilled, the Hym will leave Udalryk and attempt to jump into Geralt of Rivia. Luckily for you in the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , Geralt is actually a pretty swell guy with no heavy guilt for the Hym to latch onto.

Since the Hym is now driven out of Udalryk, it has no choice but to disappear. Hurray! The Hym is gone and you didn’t have to fight it. Go and talk to Udalryk afterwards and explain to him what happened. He will be grateful for your words of reassurance and send you on your merry way.

There you have it, all you need to do about how to beat Hym in The Witcher 3. How did you decide to deal with the Hym? Did you put Udalryk at risk in order to get a chance to fight one of these rare beings? Or, did you go the trickster route? Let us know in the comments.
