Expressions are one of the many different cosmetic options in Gears 5 that players can customize and change to suit their own personal tastes. Problem is, it can be a bit tricky to figure out exactly how you can get your character of choice to come out with the witty quip. Here’s how to use expressions in Gears 5, as well as how to change them and get more.

Gears 5 Expressions & Emotes Guide

Expressions, as we’ve eluded to above, are essentially Gears 5’s equivalent of emotes. They’re also little voice quips from characters that sum up their personality, or are just a handy means of communicating with your team.

How to Use Expressions

To use them in Gears 5, all you need to do is press down on the right analog stick (R3), and then use the d-pad to choose from the four expressions (emotes) that you’ve got selected for that character.

How to Change Emotes & Expressions in Gears 5

If you’re a little tired of the options you’ve got equipped for your favorite character, or you just want to equip a new one, follow the steps below:

  • Press the Menu button on any menu screen to open the sub-menu.

  • Go right one to find the Customization option (it’s a little silhouette of a character).

  • Choose the ‘Characters’ option.

  • Select the character you want to change the expressions for.

  • Choose the expressions option.

  • Select which ones you want to equip and replace.

  • How to Get More Emotes & Expressions

Gears 5’s cosmetics can be obtained in a few different ways. First and foremost, players can earn them by completing Tour of Duty objectives and ranking up within this Season Pass-esque feature.

Second, players can purchase them from the store, this can be accessed from the same sub-menu that the ‘Customization’ option was in, and uses Gears 5’s premium currency, Iron.

Finally, Supply Drops which players earn naturally from playing any of the three multiplayer modes in Gears 5 also have the chance of containing expressions, but it’s an RNG crate, so you’ll have to cross your fingers and hope luck is on your side.

That’s everything you need to know about Gears 5’s expressions and emotes. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki.
