Is There a Modern Day Story in Assassin’s Creed Origins?

After taking a break in 2016, Assassin’s Creed is finally back with Assassin’s Creed Origins. Players will step into the sandals of Bayek, a Medjay of Egypt (protector of the people) as he moves through a civil war and the dark workings of a secret group. Exploring ancient Egypt, seeing the nation at its peak, and taking out the dark forces lurking behind the Pharoah and Egyptian life. But of course, outside of reliving the distant past, fans come to the series to see how things are shaping up the present day and if there is a modern day story.

Assassin’s Creed Origins does, in fact, have a modern day story that has players take control of Layla Hassan, an Abstergo employee who wants nothing more than to be part of the Animus Project. She’s a technical wiz in the modern day who was born in Egypt but moved to NYC with her family when she was just two years old. She dropped out of Berkely where she didn’t feel challenged but continued her love for technology and history on her own. After being denied entry to the Animus Project, Layla decided to do something on her own (it seems she has a penchant for going against the rules).

As we said, she’s a genius and developed a way to use the Animus even without sharing any of the DNA of the person whose mind she was exploring. So, she discovered that there was someone important buried in Egypt, went and dug up his tomb, and used his DNA to bring us to Assassin’s Creed Origins. Of course, she didn’t know exactly who he was, but is quickly learning that her find is much bigger than she realized. Of course, that means that Abstergo is now after her, but we won’t give up all the spoilers here.

Suffice it to say, that players are back in control of a playable character in third-person and things do get interesting thanks to the Animus and its “Bleeding” effect.

That’s all you need to know about the modern day story for now in Assassin’s Creed Origins. For more on the game, be sure to check out our wiki.
