One of the most interesting features of Techland’s latest open-world RPG is an allegiance mechanic that tasks players with capturing key facilities around the city of Villedor and then choosing whether their resources benefit one of two different factions: Survivors or Peacekeepers. This mechanic ties in with the branching dialog choices throughout the game that allows you to shape the narrative around supporting either faction, too. But what is exactly are the consequences of all these decisions, and which faction is the best to support overall? This guide will explain the Dying Light 2 city alignment mechanic and whether you should ally with Peacekeepers or Survivors.

Should You Ally With Peace Keepers or Survivors in Dying Light 2? Answered

Story Decisions

Throughout the story of Dying Light 2, you’ll interact with characters from both of the city’s two major factions: the Peacekeepers, and Survivors. Part of the interactive nature of the narrative is that you’ll be given the opportunity to lend your support to either of their causes, shaping the story around the key choices you make in the process. These choices will see one of the factions prosper more in certain circumstances.

However, there is essentially no right or wrong answer as to which of these factions is the correct one to support, as there’s actually a greater evil at work (no spoilers) that is ultimately a common enemy to both. When faced with a story decision as to whether to support Peacekeeper or Survivors, know that your choices won’t necessarily lock you out of changing your allegiances later on. Although, they will sometimes lock you out of some aspects of the storyline and continue certain relationships.

Still, you can, for example, support the Survivors in Old Villedor and then later ally yourself more with the Peacekeepers (this is actually part of the main storyline anyway).

City Alignment System – Dying Light 2 City Alignment Explained

Alongside an impact on the story, Peacekeepers or Survivor factions can be assigned control of Faction Facilities. While this is obviously ties into the faction aspect of the storyline, it’s only superficial. For example, you’re free to make storyline decisions that support one faction but assign facilities to another and have it not impact the outcome of the plot.

Different Side Quests & Activities for Peacekeepers & Survivors

What it will mean, however, is that areas around the city will feature side quests and activities that revolve around a certain faction. So, if you’re into the Peacekeepers but prefer to assign Facilities to Survivors, you should know that all the activities and people you see around the region will be Survivors — which may or may not bother you.

So, why would you even do that? Well, assigning Faction Facilities will see different structures built around the city to aid your traversal. For example, if Peacekeepers control an area, they will build more traps across the sector, while if Survivors control the area, Aiden will have a lot more parkour-friendly obstacles around to help with traversal.

To keep track of all of your sectors and assignments throughout Dying Light 2, you can check the faction control map at any time in the menu after you make the Water Tower decision in the main story (pictured above). For every Faction Facility assigned to a given faction, you will get a new perk around any region of the city also controlled by that faction, which is displayed at the bottom.
