Grenades are a valuable tool in the Mass Effect series, as they’ll allow you to clear out groups of enemies with a quick and effective blast. Or at least, that’s what you can do until you use up all the ones you have on hand. once this occurs, you’ll likely be left wondering how to get more grenades in Mass Effect, as all three of the original games – and especially the first title – aren’t super clear on the subject.
Fortunately for you, we’ve done the leg work and figured out how this mechanic works. Read on to find out how to regularly and efficiently get more grenades in each title, increase your total grenade stock, and more.
It’s also worth mentioning that grenades work differently in Mass Effect 1 than they do in Mass Effect 2 and 3.
How to Get More Grenades in Mass Effect
Mass Effect 1
In Mass Effect 1, you’ll have a limited number of grenades at your disposal whenever you disembark from the Normandy. If you use all of them up, then you’ll need to smash crates throughout the area to try and secure more through the ammo found in said crates.
You can also upgrade your carrying limit for grenades by speaking to specific NPCs and purchasing an upgrade. These NPCs include:
- The Normandy Requisitions Officer – Found aboard the Normandy
- Morlan – Merchant in the lower section of the Citadel Wards
- Expat – Merchant found in the upper section of the Citadel Wards
- Commander Rentola – Found on Virmire
- Delan – Merchant found in the Citadel Presidium.
Purchasing these upgrades can save you a ton of time searching for grenade refills during missions, and can make combat encounters far easier. As such, it’s highly recommended that you buy said upgrades as soon as you’re able.
Mass Effect 2 & 3
In Mass effect 2 and 3, meanwhile, you won’t have to worry about a carry limit in any way, shape or form.
This is because grenades are reclassified as powers. You’ll be able to use them as much as you want, and will only need to worry about letting their power meter recharge between uses. They’ll also carry new effects based on your class, lending some variety to their effects and aesthetic.
