Not long into Borderlands 3, you’ll be sent on a mission to meet Ellie and get your hands on a vehicle. However, the driving can feel a bit strange. So that you can make it for more natural, here’s everything you need to know about how to change driving controls in Borderlands 3.
When you first jump in the car, the driving can feel strange. You accelerate and reverse with the left stick, but the steering is done with the right, with it kind of matching the angle of the camera.
The setting, which is the default one, is called Camera Relative, and I just couldn’t get used to it. Thankfully though, you can change the driving controls to make them more like what you’d expect from a different open world shooter or racing game.
How to Change Driving Controls in Borderlands 3
The driving controls can’t be fully customized, as many of the movement and combat ones can, but you can choose between four preset options.
To change driving controls in Borderlands 3, follow these steps.
Cycle through these to change the driving controls.
You’ll be able to see what each of the driving controls scheme change in the controller layout on the right of the screen. You might need to take a look at them all and see what is best for you. Here’s what each scheme does:
All Driving Control Schemes
- Camera Relative: Default – Weapons on shoulder buttons, accelerate/reverse with left stick, steer with camera position on right stick.
- Camera Relative: Third Person – Steering, accelerating, and reversing all done with left stick.
- Vehicle Relative: Left Side – Steering with left stick, accelerate with L2/LT, Reverse with L1/LB. Weapons on right shoulder buttons. Camera control is separate on right stick.
- Vehicle Relative: Stick Only – Steering, accelerating, and reversing all done with left stick, but camera control still set to right stick.
Once you’ve found the driving control scheme that feels the most natural, you can jump back in your vehicle and head back into the action.
