While Squirtle and Bulbasaur didn’t make the cut when it came to the Galar region’s Pokedex in Pokemon Sword and Shield, the good news for fire-type fans is that Charmander did. Even better, he’s actually incredibly easy to get. Here’s how to get Charmander in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Getting Charmander in Pokemon Sword & Shield
To get Charmander, you’ll need to first beat the game. This is because Charmander isn’t catchable out in the wild; you get it as a reward for becoming the Pokemon Champion of the Galar Region. After you’ve won your final battle, you’ll watch a short cutscene play out before ending up back at your house.
From here, make your way to Hop’s house and head upstairs. Go to the right up here and in the middle of the floor, you’ll find a Poke Ball that contains Charmander. Simply press A to pick it up.
The Charmander is level 5 and will automatically be added to your Party or Box.
How to Evolve Charmander Into Charizard in Pokemon Sword & Shield
Now that you’ve got yourself a Charmander, you’ll probably want to know how you can turn it into your own formidable fire-breathing dragon. Charmander evolves into Charmelon at level 16. Train your Charmeleon up to level 36 and it’ll evolve into Charizard.
Simply put, battle, camp, and catch Pokemon with your Charmander to earn XP and it’ll eventually evolve.
