Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 has arrived, bringing with it a number of new twists and turns on the classic Battle Royale action. Alongside a ‘flipped’ island map, Marcus Fenix and Spidey skins, the ability to Slide, and wear a Crown, there’s also the return of Fortnite Vaults. These have a ton of loot inside, but you’ll need to open them up before you can get your hands on the goods. Here’s everything you need to know about opening vaults in Fortnite Chapter 3.

All Vault Locations in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1

There are seven Fortnite vault locations dotted around the map. They’re scattered all around the edges of the map, with one right in the center, too.

These vaults belong to The Seven, and have a bunch of non-hostile NPCs around them. While they may look intimidating and your first instinct may be to shoot, don’t.

As long as you don’t bother them, they won’t attack you, even if you open the vault.

Opening Vaults in Fortnite Chapter 3

To open a vault in Fortnite Chapter 3, you’ll need at least one other person with you. The easiest way to do this is to play in either Duos, Trios, or Squads. When you do this, simply head to any of the Vault locations shown above and stand in front of the small screen on the left-hand side.

You’ll then be scanned, and the human silhouettes will be colored blue instead of red. Wait a little bit longer and the vault will pop open.

How to Open Vaults in Solos

If you’re playing in Solos, there are still ways you can open Vaults in Fortnite Chapter 3.

Hire an NPC

The easiest way to do this is to hire an NPC. Once they’re following you around, lead them to the Vault and have them stand there with you until it opens up.

Use a Chicken

Alternatively, as pointed out by HeyStani & MidaRado (via ShiinaBR), you can also hold a chicken in front of a vault.

It's possible to open the vaults with a chicken instead of needing another real player!

For some reason, the scanners can’t differentiate between human and chicken, so hey, presto, it’ll open up for you.
