It doesn’t seem that long ago that when you wanted to take someone to prom, you just awkwardly asked them in the hallway or slipped them a detailed drawing of their face Napoleon Dynamite-style. Nowadays, elaborate #promposals have taken over the internet with teens coming up with insanely creative ways to ask their high school sweethearts to what will undoubtably be the most important night of their lives.

With schemes like stuffing 500 ping pong balls into their locker or playing the fiddle in front of the whole school during lunch, it’s hard to seem original when others are putting so much effort into asking a simple yes or no question. If your SO happens to be a gamer, then have no fear, as we have accumulated a collection of the cutest ways to ask a gamer to prom that are guaranteed to make them say yes… hopefully.

MAKE A CUSTOM CONTROLLER

If you’ve got some money to spend on your promposal, then a custom controller would be a great way to pop the question that your gamer SO could then continue using until the next generation of consoles!

Microsoft has launched a design lab, where you can choose custom colors for a unique Xbox controller for $99.99 with the option to add laser etching to include a personal message (i.e. Prom?)

If you can’t swing that kind of money, you can also get creative like the photo above and make your very own controller that although adorable, would probably have some connectivity issues. Or don’t forget the option to paint the controller yourself, although you might want to make sure your SO would be okay with their controller getting a makeover.

SUPER MARIO MAKER PROMPOSAL

Super Mario Maker allows you to create custom levels for other players to try out that range in difficulty from walk in the park to rage-quitting impossible.

One YouTuber user Retro Shanerator used Super Mario Maker to make a special level in order to ask his wife to marry him. By carefully placing some blocks to spell out “Pam, will you marry me?”, he had himself a fiancée before she was able to jump up and get that finishing flag.

You can take a similar route, and use this cute idea to ask you SO to prom. You’ll just need to rephrase that whole “marry me” part or you might have an awkward conversation on your hands.

CATCH EM’ ALL

One thoughtful boyfriend by the name of Tyler used his girlfriend’s love of Pokemon to ask her to prom with the help of 22 Unowns, one Vulpix, a Stunky, and probably countless hours of Pokemon catching.

In a post on Dorkly, Tyler explains how the Pokeposal came to be. “I borrowed her HeartGold version of Pokemon, along with Pokemon Diamond. On her HeartGold version, I caught 22 Pidgeys and on my own Pokemon Pearl, I caught 22 Unowns, enough to spell out “Will you go to prom with me? I then caught a female Stunky (one of her favorite animals is a skunk) and a male Vulpix (my favorite animal is a fox) and taught them both the move Attract and put it in the box with the Unowns. The whole thing took pretty much a whole weekend.”

If you BF/GF loves Pokemon and you have some time to kill, then Tyler’s idea may be one to consider. The personal touch of adding his and his girlfriend’s favorite animals just takes this one over the top.

Pro tip: a quicker route would be to just rename their Pokemon team to spell out your promposal like this person did here.

RECREATE THE DANCE IN THE SIMS

If you know where the prom will be held and what the building looks like, you could always recreate the dance in The Sims and make two Sims for you and your SO all dressed in their best formal wear. Make sure their relationship is high enough so you can use all the lovey-dovery romantic interactions just like you do in real life!

The Sims 3: Generations expansion pack actually allows teenage Sims to go to prom, but the event happens offscreen with you learning about the dance through notifications. However, there is a mod for The Sims 4 that lets you throw an actual prom party either at your home lot or a custom one with the ability to invite up to 40 other teens. That way, you could also make little copies of all your friends so they could be present at your Sims’ prom when you finally pop the question.

 GET CREATIVE IN MINECRAFT

If you have a Minecraft fan for a significant other, then why not sneak into their server and build them a promposal so it will last for eternity in the digital world?

YouTube user snealinator did just that, stating in the video description of her build that it took over six hours to make the course. A flip switch offered the chance to answer yes or no to the promposal, with yes setting off a red stone fireworks display with TNT explosions.

Just make sure to Creepers don’t come around to destroy all your hard work.

YOUR PRINCESS/PRINCE IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE

Scavenger hunts aren’t a new thing when it comes to promposals, but adding a gaming spin for your special Mario fan will show you can go the extra mile.

Simply hide clues around special places, which each one stating their prince/princess is in another castle with a clue for the next location. The big reveal would have their special somebody dressed as Princess Peach (or Mario) waiting as the big question.

Bonus points if your wingman is dressed up like Luigi.

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, USE A SIGN

Pun-filled signs are probably the most common way to prompose these days, but what better way to show your sweetie you value their hobbies by acknowledging their love of games with a homemade poster board display?

By throwing in a pun or two in reference to their favorite game, or favorite console in the case above, this last ditch effort shows you still took the time to acknowledge their hobby and are requesting just one measly, little night off. Hopefully an Overwatch event or Steam sale isn’t going on during the same night, because then it might actually be hard to decide.
